What Symptoms I Help With

  • Tight or painful scar

  • Abdominal weakness

  • Pulling, tightness or pain with movement

  • Back pain postpartum

  • Difficulty returning to exercise or activity

How Physiotherapy Helps

Physiotherapy for c-section recovery can be an important step to returning to activity and exercise in a timely manner without complications. Physio can provide scar mobility techniques, breathing and pressure control, abdominal and hip mobility and progressive strengthening.

When to Start

You are able to see a physiotherapist prior to the 6 week clearance to help with pain management and initiate breathing techniques, once you are cleared at your 6 week check we will initiate strengthening. Even year later your tissue is capable of adapting.

FAQ

  1. Is it too late to treat my scar?
    - It's never too late to start. Even years, or decades later, scar tissue can adapt.

  2. When Can I massage my C-section scar?
    - As soon as the scar has closed and there is no sign of infection you are able to start touching and massaging your scar.

  3. Can physio help my C-section shelf or overhang?
    - Although the focus is to improve mobility and function and I do try to avoid the aesthetic element, improving deep scar tissue can improve the aesthetic of the scar and improve the common shelf or overhang.
